2. What does “Scoop It” refer to?

Scooping refers to the manual removal of the doughy contents of the bread before building a sandwich. Scooping the bread reduces the amount of carbohydrates, calories, sodium and fat in the bread without reducing the great taste.

Yes! The Sandwich Artists® at SUBWAY® restaurants are happy to accommodate customer requests.

 

4. Can I customize my Diabetes Friendlier Meal Choice?

Absolutely! The staff is always happy to create a sandwich or salad to meet your desire. However, when it’s all said and done, any meal combination that deviates from the recommended meal builds, may not qualify as “Diabetes Friendlier.”

 

5. What does the Diabetes Friendlier Meal Choices campaign represent?

With a staggering 24 million Americans living with diabetes and 57 million more considered pre-diabetic; SUBWAY® restaurants, VITAZEST Water and the renowned Diabetes Research Institute have worked to pioneer this revolutionary menu. This menu helps eliminate some of the guesswork. It does so by making it easier for consumers to identify those SUBWAY® meal choices that best fit into a well balanced diabetic diet.

To offer a good quality place for all people to eat away-from-home foods. To acknowledge the needs of people with diabetes within the restaurant industry.

 

7. What is the Diabetes Research Institute?

The Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) is a recognized world leader in cure-focused research.  Since its inception in the early 1970s, the DRI has made significant contributions to the field of diabetes research, pioneering many of the techniques used in islet cell transplantation.  From innovations in islet isolation and transplant procedures to advances in cell biology and immunology, the Diabetes Research Institute is now harnessing the power of emerging technologies to develop new cell-based therapies to restore insulin production.

8. What is the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation?

The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fund research at the world-renowned Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. The DRIF is a critical source of funding for the Diabetes Research Institute’s vital work. Today, the DRIF is the organization of choice for those who are serious, passionate and committed to finding a cure for their loved ones and millions of others with diabetes. The Foundation was granted four out of four stars by the Charity Navigator rating system . This means that the DRIF exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its cause.

 

9. What was the Diabetes Research Institute’s (DRI) role in the creation of the Diabetes Friendlier Meal Choices Menu?

The DRI’s medical experts, together with SUBWAY® corporate Dietician Lanette Kovachi, MS, RD and VITAZEST Water officials, worked together to create the meal option combinations offered on this menu. This was accomplished by keeping in mind the dietary requirements of people with diabetes when designing meal combinations that can better fit into a balanced diet for people with diabetes (and pre-diabetes).
